The bus left a trail of dust behind it as the engine roared into the distance. As far as Juliana could see, there were only rocks and sand in this desolate desert. Juliana sighed. The trip had been tough; she'd lost her suitcase, and her wallet, on the journey from Sunset Valley. A year ago she'd graduated from University with degrees in both Fine Arts and Communications, and was back living at home with her parents. Her mother and father had taken her out to dinner, and while they waited for dessert, they exchanged knowing looks. Juliana waited expectantly, not sure what was happening. Her parents always took her out to eat before dropping big news. Her mother grasped her father's hand, and explained that they had a surprise for her. Juliana's eyes widened expectantly. 'A new car? A new house?!' Her parents smiled and described a stretch of land that had been in their family for generations yet remained unclaimed and undeveloped due to its distant location. Her mother smiled. 'Perhaps this is the change you need, and a new adventure!' Juliana smiled at the memory and looked around. With no street signs, how would she find her inheritance? She started down the sidewalk and passed by several people, but even though she smiled and waved, many just walked on by. I suppose once I'm a local they'll be more receptive, she thought. Just then she happened upon a friendly face. 'I'm Moira, welcome to Oasis Springs!'. Juliana explained that she'd just arrived, and was looking for the Locke land. Moira smiled broadly, 'I know exactly where that is. We were wondering if it would ever be claimed. Follow me.' As they walked, Moira explained that Oasis Springs isn't quite as empty as it first appears. A small restaurant is on the main stretch of road in town, and a community garden is just down the street from Juliana's plot. Moira smiled, 'Well, this is it!'. It didn't look like much, but Juliana liked how close it was to the small river. Right away she realized that without any money, she really needed to figure out a way to find some food. That's it!, she mused, I'll go catch some money! At first the fishing proved to be less than prosperous. Several hours passed, and finally she caught two small cichlids, a guppy, and a trout. That brought in just enough money to use the grill at the community garden. The smell was intoxicating. Juliana finished her meal, and took the leftovers with her. The garden had a lot more than just a grill and a place to sit; she spent some time gathering the plants that were ready to harvest. These will certainly come in handy for my own garden! When she made it back home, she planted some carrots, daisies, and chrysanthemums. Then she had a shattering realization: there was no where to, ahem, relieve herself! Counting the last of her simoleons, she had just enough to buy a 'fertilizable' bush. It wasn't glamorous, but it would do! Making her way to a nearby bench, Juliana slipped into an uncomfortable sleep. Tomorrow would definitely be brighter.
